YOUNG ADULT LEADERSHIP COUNCIL MEMBERS |
WHO WE ARE
We are the young adults of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Northern California-Nevada.

Young Adult Leadership Council: Scott Budlong, Kristen Poppert, Tiffany Crain (back row), Matthew Harris-Gloyer, Michelle Harris-Gloyer (front row)
Rev. Scott Budlong is a recently ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Originally from Eastern Iowa, Scott came to the Bay Area three years ago with his wife Laurie Budlong-Morse to attend seminary at Pacific School of Religion. In his second year of seminary, Scott served as a campus minister to University of California, Berkeley. He has an enthusiasm for ministry to emerging generations and young adults. Scott is currently serving as a transitional interim co-minister at First Christian Church of Palo Alto.
Matthew Harris-Gloyer is the co-director of Young Adult Ministries for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Northern California-Nevada. He will be graduating from the Pacific School of Religion in May 2007 with the "Master of Divinity" degree and is seeking ordination in the CCNC-N.
I work collaboratively with the Young Adult Leadership Council in creating and providing opportunities for young adults to grow in faith and life. The making of meaning is of great concern to many and I look forward to possibly figuring this out with you!
I enjoy reading books about obscure historical figures (our Disciple brother, Kirby Page) and movements (Las Avejas in Chiapas, Mexico), playing soccer, and hiking (I intend to hike Half Dome in Yosemite within a year). I am also working on reducing my coffee intake, posting more often to blogs (the new media), and organizing my filing cabinet.
I have many favorite scriptures. Here are just a couple that are on my mind now:
1) James chapter 5 that challenges people like me with wealth to think again and consider if that wealth is necessary and how it is being utilized for the speeding up of the Kingdom/Kindom of God.
2) Esther chapter 4 where Esther is the Queen and she steps up to the challenge to do what is right.
Kristen Poppert likes to skip, hike up mountains, and sing to country music while driving. When she is skiing or hiking through the woods, she finds herself closest to God. It is in times like this that she is renewed for her time back in the East Bay. She resides in Walnut Creek and works as a legal assistant at a law firm in Oakland. Her future career is yet to be decided, but it holds either law school or a doctorate in psychology. Family and friends consitute a major part of her life. The rest is for the Oakland A's and Denver Broncos, both of which require considerable dedication to support. As a member of the Young Adult Leadership Council, she looks forward to witnessing the power of young adults gathering under a common faith.
